About us

We count people, not boxes

Most removals quotes start with the size of the van. Ours starts with the number of people, because in London that is the number that decides whether the day works — and because for a great many jobs it is not us choosing it.

If you think we have over-specified a crew, ask. We will tell you which constraint produced it.

Why this site is arranged the way it is

Spend any time quoting removals in this city and a pattern becomes obvious. Two flats with identical contents can be completely different jobs, and the difference is never the furniture. It is a shared lift that cannot be held. It is a red-route frontage where a vehicle cannot be left. It is a suspended bay two streets away and a hundred metres of pavement between it and the door.

Each of those takes one person permanently away from carrying — and that person still has to exist. So we organised everything here around the only number that actually moves: how many pairs of hands turn up.

What that means in practice

It means we ask about floors, lifts and standing points before we ask about boxes. It means the crew page for one mover spends most of its length explaining what one mover cannot do. And it means that when we quote three people for a studio flat, there is a specific reason, and you are entitled to hear it.

It also means we sometimes quote less than you asked for. A move into a building with a loading bay and a goods lift may not need the crew you were bracing yourself for, and saying so is the same honesty as saying the opposite.

Things we will not do

We do not move pianos, at any crew size. The weight sits high and off-centre and it does not behave like furniture — it is a specialist job with specialist equipment and the right answer is a different firm.

We hold no waste carrier licence, so we do not dispose of anything. An old item leaving your flat has to be going to a person or an address — a charity that has accepted it, a buyer, a relative. Anything genuinely going to disposal needs a licensed carrier, and the liability for waste disposed of improperly attaches to the householder as well as to whoever carried it.

We do not ship vehicles. And on an overseas move, we do not pretend the crossing is ours. Our crew packs, crates, inventories and loads in London; a shipping line and its agents do the rest under their own terms. That distinction is on every overseas page here, because it is the thing most often blurred in this trade.

How we work

Quotes are written, not shouted down a phone. We would rather take a little longer and be right than answer instantly and revise it afterwards. For flats and single rooms we will normally quote on photographs and measurements; for houses, offices and anything with an unusual access problem we will ask for a survey, because guessing at those costs everyone more.

On the day you get the same crew at both ends. The people who loaded your home are the people who unload it, which matters more than it sounds — they know what is under what, and why it was packed that way.

Insurance and cover

We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover. The limits, the terms and the exclusions are set out in the booking contract rather than advertised in large type here, and high-value or fragile items should be declared before the day rather than mentioned on it. That conversation cannot usefully happen retrospectively.

What customers say

Four of them, including one where we made the quote smaller

I asked for two and they said three, and I assumed I was being upsold. Then they explained the lift in my block is shared and can't be held, and that somebody would be stuck at it all morning. They were right. It would have been a disaster with two.
Adeola Peckham to Forest Hill
Short version: they talked me down from a crew of three to a crew of two because my new place has a loading bay and a goods lift. First removals firm I have ever dealt with that made a quote smaller after looking at the details.
Martin Clerkenwell to Hackney
Four people, two vans, one person clearly running the day. The loft was the bit I dreaded and it was done before I had finished making tea. Everything labelled by room and everything ended up in that room.
Priya and Sam Wandsworth, whole house
What I appreciated was being told straight that they pack and load and that's it — the ship isn't theirs, the agent at the other end isn't theirs. Everyone else I spoke to implied they would handle the whole thing door to door. I trusted the ones who didn't.

Tell us the stairs, not the boxes

Both addresses, what floor each one is on, where a vehicle can legally stand at either end, and the widest thing you own. That is what sets the crew — and the crew is what sets the price.
